Taking Stock

How was your 2018?

Even if it wasn't that hot, what good can you take away from it?

As we get ready to close out one year and welcome the next, it's common to take stock of where we are now and where we are going.

For me, it's been an incredible year: one full of hardships and success; sadness and joy; change and stillness; fear and peacefulness.

Because that's how life is, right? It's a series of events, emotions, and states of being that are either good, bad, or neutral, and we often perceive things as "happening to" us. People also tend to take one or two bad things happening as a sign of how things will go. How many times have I seen on social media that "This year is fired!" before it's really even gotten under way?

I challenge you not to do that to yourself this year.

The only thing that is guaranteed in 2019 is that both good and bad will happen, because that's life—but what you make of it is up to you. 2019 will also hold possibility, potential, opportunity, growth, and hope. Which way are you going to see things?

My hope for you as we enter 2019 is that you will consider what I wrote a couple of weeks ago and thank 2018, in some way, for contributing to who you are today. I also hope that you will greet 2019 with open eyes and open hearts to the possibilities that abound.

May your 2019 be filled with peace, hope, love, joy, and gratitude! 💛🐝

Fortune Cookie Friday: Make Your Life A Mission

This post may contain affiliate links, by which I may be financially compensated. See Disclosures & Policies on my About page.

Ok guys, if you read the last Fortune Cookie Friday post, you'd have seen that that one referred to life being a play.

And then:  THIS cookie was the next one I opened:

Make your life a mission, not an intermission.
What is up with the theatrical references lately?! That's pretty neat!

Just last week, we talked about how, if life is a play, that you should choose the role that you want in it, before the curtain comes down.

This fortune is a great follow-up to that, isn't it?

And it's pretty simple, to me: don't treat life like an intermission. Life isn't simply a break where you run and get some coffee or a beer, or maybe go stand in line for the bathroom before the lights flicker, signaling that it's time to rush back and re-take your seat for the next act. Blink, and you miss it. Intermissions always go too fast.

Treat life like your mission. Don't waste it on mundane things. If you don't like where life is going, then make a plan and tackle it. Start by writing a mission statement. What would you change in order to feel like you were living fully?

A mission statement can be a simple one-sentence statement, from which other things can then grow. I'll start with the sentence that I had in my head when I started this site:

My mission at positively b.e.e. is to disrupt negativity by focusing on positivity, light, joy, and gratitude.

And now it's your turn: what's your mission?

Comment below or on social media if you want to share your mission or any additional thoughts! And if you want any of your fortune cookies to be featured on Fortune Cookie Friday, feel free to send me pictures of your fortunes.

Have a great weekend! 🐝

Your Monday Inspiration: Mr. Blue Sky

This post may contain affiliate links, by which I may be financially compensated. See Disclosures & Policies on my About page.

It's been raining like the dickens in Pittsburgh! Sometimes I wonder if we'll ever see blue skies again. Someday the outside will look more like the one to the right...right?

Taken on a much nicer day.
I don't know what it's been doing wherever you live, but I learned something about my adopted city this year. I learned that some years, Pittsburgh has fewer days of sunshine than Seattle, a city known for its rain!

According to one of my local newspapers, there has been precipitation of some kind on 19 of the first 23 days of the month of February. And according to my local weatherman, we are more than 4 inches above average for precipitation for this month, as well!

At any rate, rain tends to make us a bit down and depressed and dreary, doesn't it? Plus, it's Monday, which I know can be rough on some people. So without further adieu, here's a song that always makes me happy!

According to the Wikipedia article about this song, Jeff Lynne was inspired after being holed up in a Swiss chalet with nothing but miserable weather—and then the sun came out and he wrote an entire 14-song album in 2 weeks!

I'm so glad he wrote it—I can't help dancing in my chair right now!

Hope you enjoyed this little Monday pick-me-up! Have a great week!

Happy New Year!

As 2018 begins, so many people are looking forward to a new year full of promise. We are all eager to have hopes and dreams fulfilled!

For myself, closing out 2017 was the end of an interesting year, in many ways. Like any other year, there have been pains and illnesses, but also many, many joys and blessings. I finished the year by writing in the final pages of my last gratitude journal, and am starting my new journal today.

My wish for all of you is that 2018 is ABUNDANT in blessings, joy, interesting stories, and love. May all of YOUR dreams be fulfilled!

What will you write about this year?

Comment below if you'd like to share any resolutions or goals you are setting for 2018!

There's magic in the air

Can you feel it?

That anticipation?

There's magic in the air!

By now, Santa is making his rounds, presents are happening, and kids are trying to catch him coming down the chimney by leaving out cookies and milk.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm like a little kid right now. There's just something about Christmas that makes me feel young again.

I'm with family enjoying the magic of the holidays, and for those that celebrate, I hope you are having a wonderful holiday, too!

Just Hold On and I'll Find You

This song has really touched my heart this week. The lyrics are pretty powerful, but when I saw the video, I knew I had to share it.

How often in life have we felt like giving up, had to hang on to every shred of faith and hope we might have just to get through something? This song and video embodies all of that, to me, and the video itself is just so beautiful in support of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
